Section 5 Class B1 Champions
The Livonia Boys Varsity soccer team claimed their fourth Consecutive Section 5 Championship on Saturday, beating Pal-Mac 3-0 in Perry. It was a dominating performance by Coach Maxwell's team. For Maxwell. it was his 12th Section 5 Championship. Livonia was confident going into the match having beaten Pal-Mac 3-1 earlier in the season. The boys played an aggressive, attacking style of play they did not have in their semi-final win over Bath, 2-1. The Livonia Boys responded well from the that scare just days before. The key to the match was the early tally by Morgan Brown just 7 minutes into the match from a nice pass from Jordan Holley. Livonia would score at the 25 minute mark of the 1st half when sophomore Mark Brado scored off an assist from Matthew Freeman. Livonia came out in the 2nd looking for another quick goal to seal this one up, however they struggled to find the back of the net despite numerous chances. In the waning minutes of the match, Livonia finally tallied their 3rd goal of the evening, generated by an oustanding effort by Tanner Pierce. Pierce outworked thre defenders in the corner of Pal-Mac's end to deliver a terrific pass in front of goal. Ryan Lutz made no doubts about it by crushing the pass into the upper 90! Livonia beats Pal-Mac 3-0. Matthew Freeman was deservingly named MVP of the match .
Class B State Qualifer - Livonia vs. Wellsville - Tuesday, November 3rd, 5:00 PM at Perry High School
The Livonia Girls Varsity soccer team continued their Cinderella season by sending number #2 seed Hornell home with a crushing defeat, 1-0. The #4 seed Lady Bulldogs had a difficult regular season losing 7 games, including 2 defeats at the hands of the Hornell Red Raiders. However our girls had confidence and momentum on their side with a strong regular season finish, a thrilling OT victory of Newark in the Quarter Finals, followed by a huge upset of #1 seed, Greece Odyssey in the Semi-Final round. In the Championship game, Livonia stormed out of the gates versus Hornell. The Lady Bulldogs pressured Hornell's defense right away. Both teams then traded opportunities until Livonia pushed the ball up the right side of Hornells defense. Livonia's Sarah English won the ball deep in the Hornell box, drawing two defenders. English spotted teammate Lindsey LoPresto making a run across the top of the penaly area, and slotted a perfect pass to LoPresto, who calmly shot the ball past the Hornell Keeper and into the side netting for the Livonia goal. This was the 1st goal Hornell allowed in sectionals and the 1st goal Livonia scored on Hornell this year! Livonia took their lead into halftime, 1-0. The 2nd half was a much different story. Hornell, feeling the pressure of being down a goal, turned up the heat on the Livonia defense. Hornell sent wave after wave of attacking opportunities at Livonia, however Livonia's defense led by Nicole Templeton, Katie Fazio, Lindsay Kolodziejski and Kara Waddell, along with Goal Keeper, Lindsay Schubert fended off every chance. As the clock counted down, the Lady Bulldogs kept the Red Raiders off the scoreboard and celebrated their Sectional Championship. Lindsey LoPresto was named Player of the Match, while Melissa Mineti was named tournament MVP.
